w Demonstrate that you can recognize, explain the formation of, identify the parent material of, and describe the characteristics of hand samples of quartzite, marble, slate, schist, gneiss, and phyllite.   In class, we worked with samples 101, 107, 116,131, 140, and 147.  We also looked at samples of the sedimentary rock shale and metamorphic rock slate, and tried to distinguish between them; those samples are 115, 132, 153, and 155.

w In the following groups, construct a rock identification key or flowchart that you can use to describe and identify rocks of each of the three major types.
