Today, you will need to have in-class
resources with you to help you work with your
Rock Your State! rock types. You should
a) Research your rock types before coming to class,
b) Bring a wi-fi laptop or your textbook, or
c) Both!
By the end of
today's class, you should be able to do the
following:
w
In the following groups,
compile a list of all the rock and sediment
types represented in the states the group
members studied for "Rock Your State!"

w
Create a master list
(using sticky notes) of all the rocks/sediments
represented for all the states in your group.
w
For each item
on the list, categorize it as a sediment,
igneous rock, sedimentary
rock, or metamorphic rock.
w
For each type
of rock (ig, sed, meta), subdivide the group
into smaller sub-classifications.
w
Logically organize
the information your research reveals about the
sub-classifications of igneous, sedimentary, and
metamorphic rocks; then, apply it to the
description of hand samples.
