By the end of today's class, you should be able to do the following:
w Review: Describe the
characteristics of the lithosphere and asthenosphere.
w Review: Sketch a diagram of
the internal structure of Earth illustrating the positions of the lithosphere
and asthenosphere.
w Review: Describe the basic
principles of geotectonic theory..
w Describe the three
different types of geotectonic boundaries, including type of movement, type of
plates usually involved, and geologic features that can usually be found at each
type of boundary.
w Sketch a diagram
illustrating each type of boundary and showing pertinent geologic features.
w Explain the
relationship between minerals and rocks.
w Compare the minerals
found within rocks to the samples in a mineral kit box.
w Use a binocular
microscope to examine minerals in rocks where the minerals are too small to be
seen easily with the unaided eye or with a hand lens.
w Describe some of the
characteristics of minerals that allow us to classify them and discern their
properties.
