your knowledge of rock classification to describe the characteristics of
clastic (detrital) sedimentary rocks.
w Describe the steps in
forming sedimentary rocks, including weathering of pre-existing
rocks, erosion, transport, deposition, and lithification
(including cementation and compaction).
w Describe the
characteristics of chemical sedimentary rocks.
w List the minerals that
can form chemical sedimentary rocks, and tell what rock each one forms.
w Demonstrate how to
recognize chemical sedimentary rocks in hand sample.
w List the processes
that lead to metamorphism.
w Describe the changes
that can affect rocks to form metamorphic rocks, including foliation.
