By the end of today's class, you should be able to do the following:

w Locate the 14 homework-assigned places on the wall map of the ocean floor.

w
Sign up for the geotectonics map homework tasks (see the Homework Assignments page).

w
In words, express the meaning of "density", and brainstorm methods for measuring it. 

w
Explain how to measure density using the triple-beam balance and displacement of water.

w
Measure and record the density of several mineral samples, perfecting your measurement technique.  (Compare your results with those of other groups.)

w Describe the four new rock samples provided.  Measure their density. 

 

During class, the instructor will examine and return your homework maps to prepare you for the next step.
