If you haven't yet, sign up for a
conference with the instructors, and enter the appointment in your planner.
By the end of today's class, you should be able to do the following:
w Review: Define the term
geologic resource.
w Review:
Explain the meaning of the statement, "If it can't be grown, it must be mined."
w Review: Describe
some characteristics of Earth materials that make them suitable for specific
purposes as geologic resources.
w Of the geologic
materials you examined in class, tell which can be found in Illinois.
w List factors that
determine whether, to meet a particular need, we might choose to use a geologic
resource found in the local area, or one from elsewhere.
w Make diverse geologic
observations about rock samples brought in by yourself and your colleagues.
On Thursday, we will be outdoors walking in the
grassy/snowy areas of campus. Please wear shoes that can get a bit muddy
or wet!
