By the end of today's class, you should be able to do the following:

Topographic Maps, Stream Processes, and Surficial Geology

  On the big map of the Chicago region at the front of the room, use sticky notes to mark the general location of each of the following streams:

  4 Fox River 4 Sanitary and Ship Canal 4 East Branch of the DuPage River
  4 Des Plaines River 4 North Shore Channel 4 West Branch of the DuPage River
  4 Salt Creek 4 Calumet Sag Channel 4 North Branch of the Chicago River

w  Explain what controls the location of the major streams in the Chicago area.

w  Describe the characteristics of the intermorainal areas in the Chicago area.


Team Project Overview (Most of this was covered last time, but the items in red get special attention today.)

Project Goal:  Investigate the geology of a specific geologic feature.

Project Requirements

m  Work as a team
           
m  Perform library/web, map, and field research
           
m  Communicate your findings to the class via a poster presentation.

Project Deliverables
           
m  Several homework assignments will involve parts of the project.
           
m  Poster Presentation:  Following the project requirements, produce a poster that presents your findings.
           
m  Team Citizenship Evaluation:  At the end of the project, everyone will rate their own and their team members' participation.  Individual grades will reflect the team grade, weighted by the results of the Team Citizenship Evaluation.
