By the end of today's class, you should be able to do the following:
Topographic Maps
w (Review) Use contours on a topographic map to find the
location of stream valleys.
w (Review) Determine the direction of flow of a stream using
contours on a topographic map.
w (Review) Sketch what a stream valley would look like on a
topographic map.
w (Review) Using contours on a topographic map, point out
areas of steeper slopes and less steep slopes.
Putting It All Together: The Blue Island Study Area
w (Review) Using
topographic, physiographic, geologic, and street maps, locate the position of the
Blue Island study
area identified during class.
w (Review) Describe the
study area in terms of its topography and surficial geology.
w Generate
hypotheses for the study area's formation.
w Generate
hypotheses explaining the link between geology land use in the area.
w List the steps
you would take to investigate this study area on a field trip.

w State your goal with
respect to the rock wall climbing experience we will have on Thursday.
