CHICAGO ROCKS! Geology in the City
ESCI 109, Section 03
Fall 2008
Daily Objectives #4 (September 4, 2008)
Dr. Sanders
By the end of today's class, you should be able to do the following:
w List the three major
types of rocks and explain how each type forms.
w For each of the three
major rock types, list three characteristics that will help you identify them
when you see them again.
w Demonstrate that you
know how to use a geologic hand lens.
w List the elements that
any map should have to make it useful.
w Examine the maps made
in class last week to see how many of these elements are found on the maps we
made.
w Describe how three dimensional landscape can be
illustrated on a flat map.
w Sketch examples of how
several different landforms would appear using the 3-D topographic mapping
method.
w Due to the weather, we will
postpone this objective until Tuesday! Using
your geologic knowledge and observation skills, examine and make observations
about the rocks, minerals, landforms, and other geologic features of interest on
the NEIU campus.
