assignments include work completed in class, and will not be posted to this
page.
Homework #1: E-mail me!

somewhere in the message so I know who you are. Due
Tuesday, September 2, 2008.
Homework #2:

shown in class. Your map should be large enough to show Chicago and the

it back!) Due

Reading Assignment: In the FYE 3-ring binder, in the
"Skills for Academic Success" tabbed section, read pages 216-240.
Due Thursday, September 23, 2008.
Homework #3: Academic Planning.
In class you were
given a worksheet for planning your personal curriculum. Complete that
worksheet and take it to your advisor to go over it. Your advisor will
help you find problems and areas that need more development, and will ask you to
work on it some more and then bring it back to them again. Once you have a
good academic plan, they will sign off on it and you can turn it in to Dr.
Sanders.
Note: If you don't know yet what you want to major in, for purposes of this
assignment, say that you want to major in Earth Science. The skills you
learn doing this will transfer to whatever major you end up declaring.
If you did not get a copy of the assignment, or need a clean copy, go to the
Advising Office in D-130 and tell them you need the FYE Academic Planning
worksheet. Due Tuesday, October 7, 2008.
Homework #4: This assignment has an individual component and a
team component. Due no later than
3:00 pm October 1, 2008.
| Individual Component: | After viewing the slideshow of the NEIU Rock Climbing Wall (as shown in class), set your own personal goal for this activity, and communicate it to your team. Team members will respect and support each individual member's goal, whatever that goal is. |
| Team Component: | As a team, select a Recorder. The Recorder will compile the goal information from all team members into a single e-mail message. The e-mail should include 1) the team name, 2) the names of all the individual members of the team, and 3) the individual goal of each team member. The Recorder will send the message to me, copying all team members on the message. I will acknowledge receipt by doing a "Reply to All", so every team member will know that the message has been received. If you don't get it, you can assume that your assignment has not been completed: have a backup plan! Every team member is responsible for seeing to it that the assignment is completed. |
Homework #5: Planning Your Future. Due at
class time Tuesday, October 28, 2008. This assignment is
being distributed, explained, and graded by Dr. Helfand's office. If you
were not in class on October 23, you will need to pick up a copy. A few
are available in my "drop-box", which is an envelope on the door to room S-130.
Please take a copy of both the survey and the yellow brochure. If there
are none in that envelope, go to the Career Counseling Office and ask for a copy
of the Harrington-O'Shea Career Decision-Making System Survey Booklet.
Bring your completed survey with you to class on Tuesday, where Dr. Helfand will
be doing the second portion of the survey.
NOTE: By THURSDAY, NOV. 6, YOU SHOULD SHOW ME THAT YOU COMPLETED THE SURVEY.
In addition, you should identify at least *four* careers that (based on the
material provided in class) fit your three-letter code. Write your code
and the four careers them on a sheet of paper and hand that in.
