Note:
If you do not have access to the web
or to e-mail, you are entitled to free access and an account as a student
of NEIU. Go to the computer lab and set up an account, and begin
to use it. If this is absolutely impossible for you, see me and we will
make alternative plans for you. You are to use the list serve to turn in
some class assignments and interact with your classmates. All
listserv assignments are to be turned in within 5 days of the assignment.
This is meant to be a useful tool to help me know that you are reading
the material, and to let you interact with one another. It should
be a fun experience.

The password is children. This is a case sensitive system so capitalize the listserv name, and use lower case for the password. If you have problems getting on, or with the general mechanics of the web let me know and I will help you.

your grade. Note that this is different from the way it is written

First Module - Introduction to the Counseling Profession
1. Log on to the listserv and post a message to all class members. Include your name and interests, and why you are interested in the counseling field.
2. Log on to Jeff Edwards' Talk Page and set up an account for yourself. Fill out the data as directed and practice posting messages. It might be good to let people know what times you are available to go on the chat line.
3. What is counseling and how is it different from other disciplines? Look up these web sites listed below and take some time to get to know them each. What are some of the basic differences between the Counseling Profession and other professions? What is it that your most like about your chosen profession? Why did you chose counseling over some of the other fields listed? Post your answers on the web board.

Access the two web sites for the family counselor groups. Look up the issues related to confidentiality in both groups. What special issues are presented regarding this ethical principle when more than one individual is involved in counseling? How would you deal with the issue of infidelity if one member of a couple discloses to you in private that he/she is having an affair? Write a short paragraph or two regarding these issues.

American Psychological Association Publication Manual. All papers that
are turned in as hard copies are to be done according to the APA Publication

You will still need to do the small assignment for the Family Module, but I will relieve you of any assignment for the following class period, except that I will expect that you will change over to our new course web site and create a password and user ID for yourself.
