About
2005-2006 will usher in the second season of Northeastern Illinois University's new Performing Arts Series and the Seventh Year of the Jewel Box Series in the Fine Arts Recital Hall. The Inaugural Year of the Performing Arts Series in NEIU's newly renovated Auditorium was a grand success marked by playwright Edward Albee, baritone Nathan Gunn, Cuban clarinetist Paquito D'Rivera, as well as the world premiere of The Patriots, an opera by NEIU music professor Ronald Combs. This year's artist line-up will not disappoint with artists like Khaled Hosseini author of The Kite Runner, and violinist Tai Murray of the Marlboro Music Festival on the roster.
The Northeastern Illinois University Auditorium and Recital Hall are two of the finest performance spaces in Chicago. Originally designed by VOA Associates Inc., in conjunction with Schuler & Schook, Inc. Theater Consultants and The Talaske Group, Inc. Acoustical Consultants, the Recital Hall was completed in 1999, and the Auditorium in 2004.
The 450 seat Auditorium has spacious seating with extremely good sight lines. The room is large yet intimate with excellent acoustics and a versatile stage suitable for music, theater, and dance.
The Recital Hall provides 175 seats in an acoustically ideal setting. Now in its seventh year, the Jewel Box Series features accomplished performers, superior acoustics, and live broadcasts of the concerts over WFMT 98.7 FM. The recital hall has been described as "a gem of a space boasting exceptional acoustics." -Chicago Tribune
