Scott Bradshaw often uses his Web site,
www.cyberfret.com, as an additional resource for
the 65 guitar students he teaches each week in
Columbus, Ohio. The site, however, is designed
primarily for people learning the guitar on their
own.
Somewhere close to 1,500 people visit Vision
Music (www.visionmusic.com) each day for guitar
instruction, says site creator and instructor Mark
Stefani who lives in Tualatin, Ore., just outside of
Portland.
The site offers everything from an "eye test" to
help first-year students assess their abilities and
figure out where they need work, to a database of
articles on technique, motivation and practice. It
also is the host for "Jam Central Station," a
round-the-clock online jam session for players of
all instruments.
At www.riffinteractive.com, students log on to a
chat session at a specific time and join 20 to 30
other students for guitar lessons. An interface
allows the instructor to send out music notation,
pictures and sound and video clips. While these
group lessons are free, one-to-one lessons via
NetMeeting's two-way streaming video are $40
an hour.
Music teachers can stake out a spot to create
their lessons and instantly post them online for
their students at sites like NotationStation.net.
They can use a free online notation service
(notation is a way of writing out musical notes)
provided and send students to their own personal
area on the site.
This course is FREE, it's EASY, and is designed to give you some
