Music 105: Section 01: Basic Materials of Music

The Basic Materials of Music course prepares students for Music Theory 101. The course will use:

It is the responsibility of each student to thoroughly examine all aspects of the course web site, and be aware of all information on it. Some class meetings will consist of online work (see calendar).
It is the responsibility of
each student to regularly use email and/or web conferencing to ask and answer
questions, keep informed of all matters regarding the class, and contribute in
this way to the class.
The textbook for the course comes with interactive software which provides the student with a "virtual tutor" to assist in learning the musical skills.
Each student must have her/his own textbook and is responsible for handing in or emailing homework, assigments, and the software records of drills which come with the book.
The course provides materials to assist a person who wants to know how to perform a simple song (such as a folk song) on the recorder. In addition, it provides students with the musical literacy one would draw upon to look at a musical score and understand it.

Attendance at all class sessions is expected. There will be Online and Self Graded Work as well.
Most of the information you need will be found on the course web site. Take a look and as soon and as often as possible.
There is a textbook which includes software. The software consists of automatically graded drills which you do until you're confident you're doing them correctly, and then you print out the results of your work. A description of the text can be found on the "Textbook" area of the class web site (click on the "Textbook" icon).
