GRADES

Grade Rubrics for the Class

Your grade in Music Concepts will be based upon:
  1. INTERNET AND CLASS INVOLVEMENT
  2. COMPUTER EXERCISES & WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS (from the textbook)
  3. TEORIA TUTORIALS AND EXERCISES
  4. EXAMS
  5. CREATIVE ASSIGNMENTS
The weighting of each of these is the following:
  1. Internet and Class Involvement = 15% of of your grade for the class.
  2. Computer Exercises and Written Exercises = 25% of your grade for the class.
  3. TEORIA Ex. and Tutorials = 15% of your grade for the class.
  4. Exams = 40% of your grade for the class (the midterm is 20% and the final is 20%).
  5. Creative Assignments = 5% of your grade for the class

If you have a problem regarding grades, you should communicate with Dr. Lucas.

  • Don't wait until the end of the term to discuss grade issues.

    1) Internet and Class Involvement

    Internet and Class Involvement affects your grade in that:
  • You should attend class meetings and access the class web site regularly for all course materials, including news and updates.
  • You should use the class web materials properly and thoroughly, examining all aspects of the site before asking questions regarding it on the class listserv. Specifically, make sure you read the material and check out the links. In all ways, be a responsible and Internet-literate student.
  • You should write all E-mail with correct spelling and grammar, and in accordance with Internet etiquette (often called Netiquette).

    2) Computer Exercises & Written Assignments

    Computer Exercises & Written Assignments affect your grade in that
  • you must complete each assigned exercise
  • you must hand in the papers or disk with the completed exercises. Note: for the written exercises, you may fax the completed exercies to me and for the computer exercises, you may send the appropriate files to me via E-mail.

    TEORIA

    These are online exercises and tutorials, found at www.teoria.com, and they will be integrated into class sessions and exams.

    4) Exams

    There will be two exams in the course, a Midterm Exam and a Final Exam.

    The Midterm Exam is worth 15 points towards your final grade, and will test you on Chapters 2, 3, 4, and 5 and appropriate TEORIA material.

    The Final Exam is worth 15 points towards your final grade, and will test you on Chapters 6, 8, 9, 10, and 12. (with a small review of the "Rhythm in Performance" part of Chapter 3. There are no hidden or philosophical items to learn, only those covered in the textbook.

    5) Creative Assignments

    Your creative assignments will be graded based upon:
