- How do I login to gamut?
- choose telnet or similar software (usually in the Network Apps folder)
- choose or enter "gamut.neiu.edu" as the hostname (if necessary)
- click or select "Open Session"
- at the login prompt, type in your login (e.g. I would type "jalucas")
- at the Password prompt, type in your password
- How do I change my password in gamut?
- at the prompt (usually gamut% or similar), type "passwd"
- follow the instructions

- at the prompt, type "pine"
- type "C" for Compose Message
- the "to" portion of the new message will be highlighted, so you can
just type in the address of the person to whom you are sending the message
(for example, to send a message to me, you would type in
"J-Lucas@neiu.edu"
- hit enter to move the cursor to the subject part of the message
- type in the subject of your message
- hit enter to move the cursor to the body of your message
- type your message
- hit control/x (that is, while holding down the "control" or "Ctrl"
key, also press the "x" key) to send the message

- you use the discussion boards to keep in touch with the other members of the
class, the instructor,
the tutor, and the student mentors.
- discussion boards (or similar tools) are an
integral part of all online classes.
- when a student asks a question and receives an answer, all students
have the opportunity to learn from it and the responder doesn't have to
answer the same question many times over.
- How do my use of E-mail and the discussion boards affect
my grade?
Internet Involvement = 15% of of your grade for the class. Internet
involvement means:
- being thoroughly aware of the entire web site. This will include
questions on the midterm and final exam regarding the content of the web
site.
- doing the online quizzes.
- responding to online surveys, using the discussion boards (i.e. asking and answering questions, contributing
to discussions, using proper e-mail etiquette, and responding to email
from the instructor, when apprpriate).
- using e-mail to communicate with the instructor.
