Northeastern Illinois University offers Honors Merit Tuition Scholarships to select Honors students to reward academic excellence. Honors Merit Tuition Scholarships are granted on the basis of academic merit, not because of financial need. Their number is limited and, as a result, these scholarships are competitive. Scholarships are granted for one semester. However, in most cases students who received a scholarship for the Fall semester and remain in good standing at the end of the Fall semester will receive a comparable award for the Spring semester of that same academic year.

All students in the University Honors Program are eligible to apply for the Honors Merit Tuition Scholarship. Students must apply by July 15th.

In order to be eligible for an Honors Merit Tuition Scholarship, students must be in good standing in the University Honors Program. Good standing requires a student to have a minimum GPA of 3.5 in both Honors and non-Honors coursework. For entering freshmen, the criteria are based on ACT/SAT scores and high school class rank. In addition students must register for and complete at least one Honors course each semester.
