Honors Merit Tuition Award

Northeastern Illinois University offers Honors Merit Tuition Awards to selected Honors students to reward academic excellence. Honors Merit Tuition Awards at Northeastern Illinois University are granted on the basis of academic merit, scholarly activities, and community involvement. Honors Merit Tuition Awards are not based on financial need. The number of tuition awards is limited and, as a result, these awards are competitive. Awards are granted for one semester, however, in most cases students who received an award for the Fall semester and remain in good standing at the end of the Fall semester will receive a comparable award for the Spring semester of that same academic year.

All students in the University Honors Program are eligible to apply for the Honors Merit Tuition Award. Students must apply by the applicable deadlines set for each semester. The deadlines are December 1st for Spring semester and May 1st for Fall semester.

In order to be eligible for an Honors Merit Tuition Award, students must be in good standing in the University Honors Program. Good standing requires a student to have a minimum GPA of 3.25 in both Honors and non-Honors coursework. For entering freshmen, the criteria are based on ACT/SAT scores and high school class rank. In addition students must register for and complete at least one Honors course each semester. Please note that good standing only makes a student eligible for an Honors Merit Tuition Award; the award is competitive and requires a GPA in excess of 3.25.

For need-based assistance please consult the Financial Aid Office.
