NIKOLAS HOEL, Instructor of History, specializes in Medieval and Byzantine History, especially their interaction. He is currently ABD at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, writing a dissertation on Religious controversy in the Lombard Kingdom. He is also interested in comparative Hagiography, Anskar of the North, and the Barbarians, East and West. Mr. Hoel was a student-fellow at the Newberry Library as part of the ACM Newberry Library program.
