All currently registered students.

What services are offered to students by Health Services and is an appointment required?

The following services are offered to students by Health Services.

  •  Assessment
  • Care of minor illness
  • Suture removal
  • Smoking cessation
  • Equipment/video loan
  • Nutrition guidance
  • Emergency contraception
Yes, an appointment is needed for all services except over-the-counter medications (such as aspirin) and basic first aid.

What tests are offered to students?

  • Cholesterol
  • Rapid Strep A
  • Pregnancy
  • Hemoglobin
  • Blood pressure
  • Blood Sugar
  • Dipstick Urinalysis
  • HIV-GC/Chlamydia
  • Tuberculosis
Do students need to be covered under NEIU's Student Health Insurance Plan in order to use their services?

No. Your Student Health Service fee supports our office.

Are students able to obtain free condoms from Health Services?

Yes. Male condoms, female condoms, dental dams, lubricant and latex-free male condoms are available.

Are students able to obtain birth control through Health Services?

Yes, make an appointment with our Advanced Practice Nurse.

Are female students able to obtain a Pap test at Health Services?

Yes, make an appointment with our Advanced Practice Nurse.

Are students able to be tested for tuberculosis at Health Services?

Yes, by appointment only. Click here to obtain the form.

Who is eligible for Student Health Insurance?
All full-time (12 or more hours) undergraduate students are automatically enrolled in the insurance plan. Undergraduates taking 6 -12 hours and graduate students taking at least 3 hours are eligible, but must request the insurance at the cashier's office.
I already have health insurance. Do I have to keep the school's policy, too?
No. If you have insurance equal to or more comprehensive than the student insurance plan, you can obtain a waiver. Please visit the Aetna web site at www.aetnastudenthealth.com and click on "Plans and Products" and then "Enroll/Waiver".
Can I add a spouse (husband or wife) or child to my policy?
Yes, the form(s) for that are available on the insurance website: www.aetnastudenthealth.com.
How do I find a doctor?
Go to the insurance website (aetnastudenthealth.com). Follow the prompts under the "Find a Doctor" link.
Will I get an insurance card?
One will be mailed to your home approximately 4 weeks after the semester begins. Please be sure the school has your correct address, as this is what is sent to the insurance company.
What if I need to see a doctor before I get my insurance card?
See Tom Lambert in enrollment services. He will arrange for an expedited entry for you into the insurance system.
How much is the insurance per semester?
Please refer to the Current Class Schedule for that information.
