Student Reviews
Reymundo Sanchez's The Making of a Latin King
NORTHEASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY
Summer 2004

Erika A. Romero -
I enjoyed reading this book because it goes by details
that grab your attention. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read
details about events that deal with Latinos, also to know about gangs.

Cecilia Alvarado - I really enjoyed reading this book. I recommend this book
to those people that are interested in knowing how dangerous it is to be
part of a gang.

Christina Segarra - Reymundo tells the truth about how gang lifestyle is and how hard it is to live without
a good family. He describes gang life clearly and realistically. Even though it is a little bit harsh, it’s the reality
he lived. It is a good book to read because it shows how he was a “bad boy” who learned from his mistakes and
changed into an experienced man.

Jessica Delgado - I recommend this book because I have read it for three times.
It had a lot of action and I could relate to it very much. I promise that you would not be able to put it down.

Adriana Angon - I strongly recommend My Bloody Life to those people that enjoy reading books based on true life.
Is a book that keeps the reader in suspense at all times. It also informs the reader that there are many things
that we avoid to make our world look wonderful.

Felix Ramirez - To start with, I hate reading novels. Most of the books I was supposed to read in high school were at Sparknotes.com. So to make a long story short, I have not read a novel for at least four years. My Bloody Life on the other hand,
I could not stop reading. I don't know exactly what grabbed my attention about the book, but it was so elaborately written,
it felt like you were there as the story unfolded.
When the STP program started, that weekend was when I read My Bloody Life. I was unable to put the book down, and I
finished it in about a day and a half. This book allowed me to envision gangs in a way that I never thought of.
It shows how others actions can affect one's life, and ultimately screw it up.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is able to read the book, and really understand it.
Even though it is filled with violence, drug use, cursing, among other immoral actions,
it brings to light the complex world of gangs.
