Program Overview
This Master's program prepares professionals who will
be responsible for the training, education, and development
of adults in organizations involved in business, health
care, human service, and government. The program has
been developed especially for Human Resource Development
practitioners desiring formal training and experienced
employees wishing to move into the Human Resource Development
field.
Upon completion of the MA Degree, students will be
able to:

Communicate and interact effectively with groups
and individuals;
-
Assess the relevant characteristics of adult learners;
-
Apply needs, task and content analysis techniques;
-
Assess the nature of performance problems;
-
Design training programs;
-
Assess the effectiveness of training programs;
-
Manage human resource development projects and
programs;
-
Plan, develop and implement techniques which improve
department and organizational performance.
Admission Requirements
Note: The Department of Education will admit students to the Graduate
Program in Human Resource Development on an semi-annual basis in
FALL and SPRING semesters only.
Students must fulfill the requirements for admission
to the Graduate College.
In addition, students who wish to enroll in the program
must meet the following eligibility requirements:

A Bachelors of Arts degree in Human Resource Development
or demonstrated success in the Human Resource Development,
teaching, or related field;

A minimum overall undergraduate grade point average
of 2.75 or better;

Two letters of recommendation from professors,
employers, or supervisors which provide evidence
of the applicant's qualifications. Individuals who
fail to satisfy the first requirement will be asked
to complete undergraduate course work in Human Resource
Development prior to admission. The courses to be
taken will be determined by the program advisor
and will be based on a review of the individual's
academic record and related work experience.

Other Program Requirements:
Students must meet a number of requirements prior to
the end of the semester in which they plan to graduate:

Grades:
* A GPA of at least 3.0 .
* No more than 6 hours of "C" grades .
* No grade less that a "C" may be counted
toward the degree.

Formal application for candicacy: An "Application
for Candidacy" form can obtained from the Graduate
College in CLS 4029. It should be filed once the
student has completed 12 hours of graduate course
work at NEIU with a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Application for graduation: An "Application
for Graduation" can be obtained from the Graduate
College (CLS 4029). It should be filed during the
semester in which the student plans to graduate.
The dates that the form is available and when they
should be complete are listed in the "Schedule
of Classes" which is published each semester.

Pass a written comprehensive exam given at the
beginning of each semester. The exam should be taken
during the semester in which the student plans to
graduate. Applications for the exam should be completed
the semester PRIOR to the semester the student plans
to graduate. Applications can be obtained on the
bulletin board outside of CLS 4010.
Thesis Option
A thesis option will be available by invitation only.
The invitation will be based on a consensus agreement
of the program’s policy board and the desire of
the student to select the thesis option. Students doing
a thesis will complete ELAD-HRD- 420 Thesis Seminar,
for 3 credit hours.
