Graduation Procedures

When the student is approacing the term of graduation he or she should speak with their advisor so the process goes smoothly. Bear in mind that in addition to the major and minor requirements, the student must also fulfill all the University Requirements. Students should be familiar with these requirements, and should also discuss their preparedness with their academic advisor.

The following forms are needed

Academic Course Record Form -- Major

This is a record of all courses which will apply to the Geography or Environmental Studies major. Courses in progress are marked with a P, courses needed are indicated with a N, and a checkmark shows the course is or will be completed at NEIU. Transfer courses, with the advisor's approval, may substitute for existing G&ES courses (maximum ___ hours). These are indicated with the NEIU course name, the name and institution of the course taken.

The student's advisor must initial each course, including the P's and N's. This shows approval of the course as a major requirement. Students must enter their courses -- inclluding substitutions -- and the grades they received and credits earned. if not taken at NEIU, list the institution where the class was taken. All substitutions require the Academic Advisor's approval. The Advisor initials each qualifying class and signs off on the form when all major requirements are met. For students declaring a major prior to, or after, Fall 2008 use these forms:

 

       Environmental Studies Academic Course Record Form needed for graduation

       GEOGRAPHY Academic Course Record Form needed for graduation

 

Academic Course Record Form -- Minor

The same procedure is done with the minor. If your minor is in another department, check with that department. For the G&ES minor, take the following form to the G&ES chairperson.

NEIU Undergraduate Application for Graduation

This must accompany both the major and minor Academic Record forms. It can be major in Geography or in Environmental Studies, or a minor in Geography & Environmental Studies, should fill out the Declaration of Major/Minor form. At the moment you must pick up the form from the dean's office or Department Office, or from the Department Chair. Soon we hope to have the form on -line, linked to this page.

 

GIS CERTIFICATE

The 15 credit hour GIS Certificate at the undergraduate level uses the following form at the time of completion:

The completed forms are signed, initialed, and sent by the Advisor to Enrollment Services in D-111.
