NEIU Campus Prairie Burn 2004

On April 6, 2004, Northeastern Illinois University's "GeoManiacs" and the Department of Geography & Environmental Studies burned large patches of prairie around the NEIU campus. In the panorama to the right you see volunteers looking over a burned area and preparing for the next burn, to ensure no desirable vegetation and no property is damaged. In the images below, you see some of the more dramatic moments of the burn. It was a dry day with light variable winds. The prairie had not been burned in several years.
