Clubs and ActivitiesThe department hosts an annual departmental pot-luck picnic in the first week of Fall term. Students participate in burning the campus prairies, an event which is organized by the department. PRAIRIE BURN. The Green Cycle Group is founded in the department but is a campus wide club of which many G&ES students are members. The club works with admnistrators, faculty, and staff to promote environmentally sound practices on campus an in the surrounding community. For more information, or to join the club, check the web page: Green Cycle Group In Fall of 2006 the club, under the leadership of a G&ES faculty member, successfully promoted a referendum in which NEIU students approved a $3-per-term Green Technology Fee which will be used for energy efficiency and conservation initiatives across campus. Students from across campus, and often from G&ES, take the lead in stewardship of that fund. The GREEN FEE COMMITTEE is where to go to learn more, or get involved. A G&ES faculty member is currently the faculty member on that committee. The department has an active FACEBOOK PAGE. Check it out. We also have an annual Awards Ceremony for outstanding students in the department, each Spring. Contact the Department Office for more information. Check the bulletin boards for news and upcoming. And by all means, sign yourself up to the email list by following the Email List button in the menu to the left. Sign yourself up to undergraduate, graduate, or alumni.
