Exhibition Schedule: Spring 2012
Form Follows Figure: Michael Ferris, Patrick Earl Hammie, and Ben Moreau
January 9th – February 3rd
Three artists working in different media provide
diverse and innovative figurative work. Ferris' realistic
portrait sculptures, made of inlaid recycled wood and
pigmented grout, include elements of the fantastical
to communicate the sitter's inner psychological world. Hammie's monumental paintings re-invent the figure
using expressive body language, sweeping brushstrokes,
and intense emotional narratives. Moreau draws on
various pop culture references to comment on universal
experiences of fear, anxiety, and loss.
Ferris Gallery Talk: Thursday January 12th, 3pm
Hammie Gallery Talk: Friday January 20th, 4pm
Reception: Friday January 20th, 6-9pm
Living by Example: Edra Soto and Dan Sullivan
February 13th – March 16th
To reflect the growing popularity of 'apartment
exhibitions' in Chicago, soto and sullivan are creating
a communal space in the form of a modern shed. The "shed" will exist in the gallery during the course of the
exhibition. Several guest artists will be invited to share
in a variety of activities which will comment on the
transformation of the traditional idea of the gallery as "white cube." After the exhibition, the "shed" will be
relocated to soto and sullivan's backyard and will act as
their personal exhibition space.
