Basic Operations
This lab uses Multimedia (video, audio, etc.) as the central focus point of language acquisition. The belief is that by mimicking sounds a person can learn another language. People have to learn the mechanics of the language in order to grasp it. The Pro One AV Controller and the computer at the front desk of LIB 451 is a master console that can record, play, and repeat media content on computer digital audio, DVDs, CDs, and video cassettes.
1. The lab console has a PC on it that can control these devices with the X-Class software. First turn on the Elmo Document Camera and press the RGB1 button to make the left-hand computer screen visible. See the "Equipment" page for instructions how to do this if the machine is not already turned on.
3. To turn on the projector, press and hold for a few seconds the "Power On" button and wait for the lamp to warm up.
4. After over a minute (while the lab warms up) either the computer image or a blue blank video image will appear on the screen.
5. Use the panel to select, PC, DVD, VCR, Visualizer or Notebook to project the appropriate device.
6. Put a VHS tape into the VCR or a DVD into the DVD player. Press either the DVD, VCR buttons on the console to display the video, the visualizer button to display the Elmo's image or press VGA/PC to show the instructor's computer or laptop.
7. The sound will play through the ceiling speakers and the picture will show on the wall mounted screen.
