Give Yourself Some Credit! You're Studying a Foreign Language! |
Entering freshmen (or undergraduate transfer students) who took FRENCH or SPANISH in high school may receive up to six hours of 100-level General Education college credit if they take the Foreign Language Placement Test and meet the requirements of the FL Placement Credit Policy described below.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE PLACEMENT CREDIT POLICY
TO BE GIVEN THE 3 OR 6 100-LEVEL CREDITS IN ACCORDANCE WITH NUMBERS 1,2, 3, OR 4 ABOVE, STUDENTS MUST TAKE THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE PLACEMENT TEST PRIOR TO COMPLETING ANY COLLEGE LEVEL FRENCH OR SPANISH COURSES.
AP and previous college credit may already count as 101, 102 and 103 courses, so students may not be eligible to receive extra credit through the NEIU FL Placement Credit Policy described above.
Students who have already completed French and Spanish
courses at NEIU or other colleges and universities should contact the Foreign
Language Department for appropriate placement and further advisement.
Students who have taken the College Advanced Placement Exam in French or Spanish and intend to apply for AP credits should also contact the Foreign Language Department for appropriate placement and further advisement.
IMPORTANT NOTES
ALL TESTS ARE GIVEN IN THE LANGUAGE LAB, Room LIB-451 on the Fourth Floor of the Ronald Williams Library around the corner from the Learning Center.
For languages other than French or Spanish, students should contact the instructor.
To take the Foreign Language Placement Test, students should contact Tom Griffin at the Foreign Language Lab to make an appointment during the Lab's open hours, except during university holidays, weekends, semester breaks, or times when the lab is closed.
The deadline for the current
semester is the last day of the first week of classes.
The computerized test takes
about 30 to 45 minutes, and results are given when finished.
