Trouver un correspondant francophone
PEDAGOGICAL OBJECTIVES: To describe oneself and others and to
express preferences about leisure time activities.
Introduction: Do you have a pen pal from
another country? In this activity, you'll look at a list of people in different
French-speaking countries looking for pen pals around the world. Although
you've only been studying French for a little while, you know enough to
introduce yourself, to say something about your family, and to talk about
your favorite activities... so it's time to put all that hard work to use
and find a new friend!
A. Mon auto-portrait: Describe yourself
in French. Make two word lists. Use the Vocabulaire
in Leçons 2 through 8 of your Voilà! textbook to help
you. In the first list, indicate your physical characteristics. In the
second list, indicate your favorite activities. List four things for each
category.

B. À la recherche d'un correspondant:
Click on the link below to find French-speaking pen pals on the FranceWorld
Web site. Once the website appears click on "How to find a Pen
Pal". Leave blank the "Login Name" and "Password"
blanks. When you click "How to find a Pen Pal" you will
see a list of countries. To find out which ones are French-speaking, look
at the maps inside your textbook. From the list choose THREE DIFFERENT FRANCOPHONE
COUNTRIES. Select "Target Country" (where your pen pal is
from), "My Pen Pal for" (your nationality) and your choices for age,
gender, region of your new pen pals. Find three possible correspondents from three different Francophone countries and click
the person's name for more details about each person.
NOTE: This Website used to be exclusively in French and the
webmasters are attempting to translate it into English. You may notice a mixture
of both languages, often with rather bizarre combinations. This is most likely
temporary. The password and user ID are required to buy email address. It is
free, however, to search and register as a member. You are not required
to register or actually write the pen pals. This exercise is a simulation for
improving your writing in French. http://www.franceworld.com
