SCHOLARSHIPS
NEIU
Presidential Scholarship
(Entering Freshman) Must achieve a minimum ACT of 27 or a minimum SAT of
1220 and submit application.
Covers tuition, fees, and books for a maximum of four years. (Must
achieve a GPA of 3.25 for eligibility for renewal.) No repayment
obligation.

NEIU Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
A minimum of 3.0 GPA and an A.A. or A.S. degree are required.
Out-of-state students, part-time students, students with pervious bachelor's
degrees, and non-US citizens who are not a permanent resident are not eligible.
New awards will not be awarded until current recipients have completed
additional 60 credit hours at NEIU. The student must enroll immediately
following completion of two-year college. Verification and recommendation
from a Phi Theta Kappa advisor are required. For information please

of Arts & Science Tuition Waiver
Freshman requirements: upper 15% of graduating class, minimum ACT of 24 or SAT of 1110.
Transfer or current NEIU student requirements: minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

NEIU College
of Business & Management Tuition Waiver
Freshman-upper 15% of graduating class, minimum ACT of 26 or an SAT
score of 1110, one page essay, submit two letters of recommendation from
teachers and/or employers. Transfer or current NEIU Student with
a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, one page essay, submit two letters of
recommendation from teachers and/or employers.

NEIU College of Education
Tuition Waiver
Freshman-upper 15% of graduating class or minimum ACT of of 24 or an
SAT score of 1110, one page essay. Transfer or current NEIU student-minimum
cumulative GPA of 3.0, one page essay. Full-time or half-time tuition waiver.
NEIU Honors Tuition Waiver
(Undergraduate) Admitted into NEIU's Honors Program; have a 3.25 GPA
and be enrolled in an Honors course each semester the award is granted.

NEIU Talent Tuition Waiver (Art, Music, Dance, Honors, Leadership,
Speech and Performing Arts, Publications)
Undergraduate. Limited availability. Two letters of recommendation
from persons qualified to evaluate talent. Approval of NEIU Talent
Committee. No needs analysis required. Maximum four years of
tuition payment. Reapply annually. No repayment obligation.

NEIU Graduate Merit Tuition Waiver
Graduate. Must be enrolled in graduate program. Pays only
tuition. No repayment obligation. Contact NEIU's Graduate
College or individual Graduate Program Department offices.
NEIU Cooperating Teacher Certification
Graduate only. Current teachers who have supervised a NEIU student
teacher in a classroom setting arranged through Office of Clinical Experiences
and Student Teaching. For each student teacher supervised the cooperating
teacher will be waived tuition for one 3 credit hour class. No repayment

NEIU Scholarship for Children of Deceased Faculty and Staff
Undergraduate. Covers tuition and fees. No repayment obligation.

Illinois Consortium for Educational Opportunity Program (ICEOP)
Graduate only. Black, Hispanic, Native American, or Asian American
who have been accepted to a graduate program at Northeastern Illinois University.
Must be an Illinois resident and U.S. citizen. Provides partial and
full educational stipend for students pursuing degree objectives leading
to teaching or administrative positions in post secondary education.

Special Education Teacher Tuition Waiver
Undergraduate and Graduate. Limited availability to students
expressing intent to take courses in preparation for teaching special education.
No need analysis required. Maximum: four years. Pays tuition
and activity fees. Repayment to state is necessary if teaching career

Merit Recognition Scholarship
Undergraduate. Students must be in the top 5% of their high school
class for the 7th and 8th semesters. Eligible students will be sent
an application in the summer after high school graduation. $1000
award for the freshman year. No repayment obligation. For more

Illinois General Assembly Tuition Waiver
Undergraduate and Graduate. Financial need usually not a factor.
Each member of the Illinois General Assembly is authorized to award General
Assembly Scholarships. No repayment obligation. Contact your
Illinois State Senator or Representative.
Illinois
Veterans Grant
Undergraduate and graduate. Veterans must complete appropriate
application form and furnish one copy of their official separation form
DD-214 which demonstrates: 1) Illinois residency until at least 6 months
prior to induction. 2) served on active duty in the Armed Forces
for at least one year at any time since 1940; and 3) returned to Illinois
within 6 months after discharge. Payment of tuition and some fees
at any state university. Students may enroll full or part-time.

National Guard/Naval Militia
Undergraduate and graduate. Enlisted member who has served at
least one year in the Illinois National Guard or Naval Militia. Payment
of some tuition and some fees at any state school. Students may enroll

Illinois Dependents of POW's and MIA's Scholarship
Undergraduate and graduate. Students who are dependents (spouse
and/or children) of Illinois residents, officially declared prisoners of
war, missing-in-action, killed, or 100 percent disabled since January 1,

Illinois ROTC Tuition Waiver
Undergraduate and graduate. Based on merit. Covers tuition
and some fees up to four years. No repayment obligation. Contact
U.S. Army ROTC; University of Illinois at Chicago (312) 996-3451.
Bureau
of Indian Affairs
Undergraduate and graduate. Must be native American and show
financial need. $500 to $1,500 or more, depending upon funds available
to the Bureau. No repayment obligation. Contact your tribal
office.
Private Scholarships
Undergraduate and graduate. Need, merit, ethnic group, religious
group, etc. The amounts vary according to the award. No repayment
obligation. Sources of private scholarships are various outside sources.

Monetary Award Program (MAP) Grant
Undergraduate. Covers tuition and fees only. Must apply
annually. No repayment obligation. Must complete FAFSA.

Pell Grant
Undergraduate. Must show need. Must be a U.S. citizen or
permanent resident or intend to become a permanent resident. Must
be enrolled in a degree program. Must apply annually. Applies
to tuition and fees plus other educational expenses. No repayment
obligation. Must complete FAFSA.

Federal
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
Undergraduate. Limited availability. Must show exceptional
need. Must be enrolled in a degree program. Program is considered
a source of grant funds to supplement other federal aid programs such as
the Federal Pell grant described immediately above if the student continues
to show need. No repayment obligation. Must complete FAFSA.

NEIU Graduate Need Based Tuition Waiver
Graduate. Must show need. Must be enrolled for nine credit
hours. Pays tuition only. No repayment obligation. Must
complete FAFSA.

Student
Aide Employment
Undergraduate and graduate. All students enrolled for 6 hours
or more are eligible to apply for part-time on-campus employment

Eligibility of students is determined by approved needs-analysis methods.
Must be enrolled in a degree program. Must complete FAFSA.

Perkins Loan
Undergraduate and graduate. Must be enrolled full or half-time
in a degree program. Must show need. Amounts vary. Long-term
repayment at 5% interest. Cancellation of debt under certain specific
conditions. Must complete FAFSA.

Family Educational Loans (FFEL):

Stafford Loans (Subsidized and Unsubsidized)
Undergraduate and graduate. Must be enrolled at least half-time
in a degree program. Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident of
U.S. Amounts vary. Must show need to qualify for subsidized
loan. Funds are lent to students from banks, credit unions and other
approved lenders. Long-term repayment. Interest rate varies every
July 1st; not to exceed 8.25%. Must complete FAFSA. Must
also complete Stafford
Entrance Counseling and the Master

PLUS Loans For parents of dependent undergraduates.
Student must be enrolled at least half-time. Student and parent must
be U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. Amount cannot exceed
cost of attendance. Parent must show credit worthiness. Funds are
lent to parents from banks, credit unions and other approved lenders.
Repayment begins after final disbursement for award year. Interest
rate varies every July 1, not to exceed 9%. Must complete FAFSA.

Emergency Loan Fund (Northeastern)
Undergraduate and graduate. Must have emergency need and a validated
bill for the current term. Maximum $150. Thirty-day repayment,
