Following is a list of services provided by the Public Safety office and the corresponding extension to dial to request or inquire about these services.In cases of emergency please dial extension 5511.
 

Accidents - Personal Injury    Ext . 4100
 
 
Report all accidents involving personal injury to the Public Safety office.Give exact location and nature of injury.Medical assistance will be dispatched along with a police officer.Do not attempt to move seriously injured victims until trained medical personnel arrive.Minor accident victims should report directly to the Health Service office.
 
Accident - Vehicles    Ext. 4100
 
Report all vehicle accidents to the Public Safety office.A police officer will be dispatched to process an accident report.Advise dispatcher if accident involves personal injury so that medical personnel may also be dispatched.

Crime Prevention    Ext. 4100

 
Specially trained officers are available to provide crime prevention presentations related to personal security and security of personal and state property.These presentations are available to University units and to the surrounding community.
 
Suspicious Activity    Ext. 4100
 
Immediately report all suspicious activity or acts to the Public Safety office.
 
Escort Service    Ext. 4100
 
Persons using the buildings during late or closed hours may request escort service to their cars by calling the Public Safety office.
 
Fire Alarms    Ext. 4100
 
All main campus fire alarm boxes are monitored at both Public Safety and the heating plant. Both Public Safety and Facilities Management will respond to investigate the activated fire alarm.All employees and students should leave the building whenever a fire alarm is activated.
 
Fire Response    Ext. 5511
 
Whenever fire or smoke is observed in any part of the campus, the person reporting it should pull the nearest fire alarm box and immediately provide the Public Safety office with the following information:caller's name, location, and type and severity of fire.If the fire is very small, use appropriate fire extinguisher to contain the fire only if someone knows how to use it (otherwise let proper authorities do this), verbally sound alarm, and assist Public Safety, if requested, in orderly building evacuation.
 
Keys/locks - broken    Ext. 4100
 
Report broken keys to Public Safety and broken locks to Facilities Management immediately.Emergency repairs affecting safety of buildings or property will be scheduled as soon as possible.Non-emergency repairs will be scheduled under the work order system.
 
Keys - lost, stolen, found    Ext. 4100 or 4290
 
Report immediately to Public Safety office or Information desk.
 
Lost and found    Ext. 4100 or 4290
 

Report all lost property, University and personal, to the Public Safety office.Found items should be turned in at Information desk.
 

Parking - general    Ext. 4114
 
All vehicles parked on University property must correctly display a valid decal/permit at all times.Parking violations and decals must be paid for at the Cashiers' counter. Contact the Parking Office for booklets explaining all rules and regulations pertaining to parking.
Handicapped parking spaces are available for the temporarily and permanently physically disabled as determined by Health Service and may be acquired as follows:
Report to Health Service for eligibility determination.
Pay for permit at the Cashier's counter.
Pick up permit in Health Service.
Car pool parking spaces are available in level II lots for employees who are registered with Chicago Area Transportation Study (CATS) Rideshare and have a valid parking permit.A car pool sticker may be obtained as follows:
Register with the CATS Rideshare program.
Register and receive the car pool sticker in the Public Safety office.
Level II parking permits can be purchased with University funds on a Direct Payment Voucher and submitted as follows:
Forward Direct Payment Vouchers being charged to grant accounts to the Controller’s Office.
Forward Direct Payment Vouchers for daily permits less than $25.00 to Public Safety or the Controller’s Office.
Forward all other Direct Payment Vouchers to the Controller’s Office at least five days prior to the date needed.
Parking violations and decals must be paid for at the Cashier's counter.
Parking lot - services    Ext. 4100
 
For the convenience of people legally parked in University lots, Public Safety personnel will assist in unlocking cars and battery jump-starts.Liability waivers must be completed in the Public Safety office prior to any services being rendered.
 
Thefts/vandalism    Ext. 4100
 
All cases of theft or vandalism should be reported to Public Safety immediately citing location, description, and caller's identification.
 
Windows broken    Ext. 4100 or 5240
 
Immediately report broken windows to Public Safety or Facilities Management.
