Work with the Writing Lab

Two thirds of our students were told about the lab by their instructors. When we surveyed our students in the fall of 2005, we found that one third of them had heard about us through a class visit made by one of our tutors.

  • We encourage faculty and instructors to request class visits during the first 5 weeks of any semester. We will encourage students to come to the lab, and we will give the lab a positive spin.

  • We encourage faculty and instructors to share syllabi and assignment sheets with us to help us better assist students.

  • We welcome questions and feedback concerning our services via phone, in person, or email.

Our home is in the English Language Program (ELP),so we can draw on its rich resources. Faculty from both the ELP and the Linguistics Department contribute their talents to our weekly tutor training meetings, and our methods for working with English Language Learners are informed by the latest research. Our graduate assistants from the Linguistics and English Departments are trained to work with both native speakers of English and English Language Learners.
