Conversation Groups

The English Language Program and Writing Lab offer free conversation groups for NEIU students. A conversation group is a small group of students who meet in order to speak English. A staff member provides topics and activities to help start the conversations. Students discuss various topics, such as learning English, studying at NEIU, or differences between cultures.

Conversation groups can help students:

  • increase their fluency and help then to speak English easier and faster


  • learn more vocabulary and idioms


  • improve their pronunciation by listening and speaking to others


  • meet other students outside class

Conversation groups are not a class. There is no credit; there is no tuition. Students can attend once or many times; they can come one day a week or many days each week.
