Meet the Writing Lab Staff


The Writing Lab, a service of the English Language Program, is staffed by graduate assistants from the Departments of English and Linguistics, undergraduate peer tutors enrolled in English 375, The Essentials of Tutoring Writing, and three full-time writing specialists.

Ken Desbonnet, Writing Specialist, earned his Bachelor's degree in English for Secondary Education in Connecticut and holds a Master's degree in Linguistics from NEIU. Ken tutors during the day, coordinates the evening and off-site tutoring, and handles the data collection for the department. He also sponsors conversation groups for English Language Learners.

Christine Larsen, Writing Lab Director, has a Master's in Education with a major in Applied Linguistics from Indiana University. She has taught intensive English at National-Louis University and DePaul University, and she has designed and implemented training and staff development for ESL instructors at the City Colleges of Chicago. Chris is responsible for faculty outreach, tutor training, and program evaluation.

Alicia Perez, Program Services Aide, started working in the English Language Program in the summer of 2006. Alicia can assist students with appointments and help with questions regarding the English Language Program and the Writing Lab.

Borislava Quaintance, Writing Specialist, holds a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature from National-Louis University and an MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Borislava lends her expertise to Tuesday workshops, class visits, Writing Lab on the Go, and tutoring.
