Informing Students of Services
What approach will encourage students to come to the Writing Lab?
- Inform students that the lab is for everyone: students who like to write, students who do not like to write, and students who just want to be better writers.
- Encourage all students to come to the lab, including your best writers.
- Let students know about your own experiences with writing, and how you share your work with others before publication, for example.
- E-mail us at the NEIU Writing Lab to let us know when you have encouraged students to come to the lab. Attach your assignment sheet so that we can be aware of your expectations.
Tell students what we do:
- We provide one-on-one tutoring to any student currently enrolled in a university class.
- We help students plan, develop, and articulate their ideas.
- We help students at all stages of the writing process: planning, drafting, revising, and proofreading.
Details on appointments:
- Call 773-442-5480 or stop by LWH 2046 to make an appointment.
- Students can also request an appointment online by clicking here.
- Appointments generally start on the hour and are 50 minutes long.
- Students may come just once, or they may schedule appointments up to twice per week.
What students should bring:
- When students come to the lab for their appointments, they should bring everything related to their assignment: lecture notes, text, assignment sheet, and syllabus, as well as any plans, outlines, or drafts they have written.
