In support of NEIU work with Latino students, campus visits and leadership development initiatives are sponsored, reaching out to Latino and low-income students from schools and community organizations in collaboration with various departments, units, and colleges. Collaboration with the Chicago Teachers' Center is done to provide students from K-12 programs (GEAR UP, Trio, Bridges to the Future, etc.) with exposure to higher education. ENLACE seeks to help students affiliated with these programs prior to enrolling at NEIU with networking and other opportunities that increase their chances of success. Professional development is also provided to University departments in support of evidence-based practices that support their work with students, including Motivational Interviewing and experiential education.
A partnership with Social Work Faculty is resulting in an innovative community service project with NEIU students working with high school students at risk of dropping out. ENLACE provides students with professional development skill development in Motivational Interviewing and Adventure Education and then use these tools to help secondary students facing challenges as they traverse the educational pipeline.
