Greetings From Our President
Welcome to our celebration! The University is proud of the history of our El Centro campus and we look forward to celebrating its 40th anniversary. Over its forty year history, El Centro has evolved from a small storefront operation offering classes to community members and neighborhood NEIU students to the current comprehensive campus, a place that provides a wide array of courses (including the entire NEIU general education program), co-curricular activities, a high school partnership, and graduate courses in education. Along the way, El Centro has never lost sight of its vision as a creative response to the challenges faced by Latino students in their struggle to gain access to educational opportunities at the University.
On this website, you will find a guide to the many events that celebrate our past and build our future. I would like to draw your attention to one particular happening: in recognition of NEIU-El Centro as a destination of choice for Hispanic students in Chicago and in celebration of this milestone anniversary, we have started a fundraising campaign to create an NEIU-El Centro endowment. This endowment will support student opportunities, fund programs, and improve facilities at El Centro. Contributing to this fund is your opportunity to tangibly support the mission of El Centro. Greetings From the Director
Welcome to the official website of the Northeastern Illinois University-El Centro 40th Anniversary Celebration. In 2010 the entire NEIU community will celebrate the history, evolution, and accomplishments of NEIU-El Centro in particular, its special place in the Latino community. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members will come together to celebrate this significant milestone. In addition to celebrating our past, we continue to build for our future. To this end, proceeds from this Celebration will go towards the NEIU-El Centro Foundation in support of student scholarship opportunities, student and community programs and facility improvements. We invite you to help us to meet our fundraising goal and look forward to your participation at these celebratory events.
