JORGE PÉREZ
First Dancer
Jorge was born in San Juan and raised in Chicago. He began his study of Spanish Dance with Dame
Libby Komaiko in 1985. Since then, he has studied with Roberto Lorca, Paco Alsono, Juanjo Linares,
Manolo Rivera, Jose De Udaeta, Edo, Azucena Vega and Modern Dance with Venetia Stifler and Nana
Shineflug. In 1993-94 Jorge was appointed to the faculty of the Ensemble Español Community
Workshops and also became assistant to Dame Libby Komaiko with the "Jr." Ensemble Español and
school projects. His acting stage credits include Moonchildren, Kerowacky, Nero Wolf: Before I Die, and
Edwin Booth. He has performed for the Ozarks Spring Festival of Theater at Missouri State University
and for the Interpreters Theater Festival at Southern Illinois University. Jorge is an honors graduate
from Northeastern Illinois University with a B.A. in Speech Communications/Performing Arts and a
Dance minor.
Jorge, along with Irma Suarez Ruiz and Juan Ramon, appeared as Special Guest Artists for the
Ballet Español's production of "Espiritu Flamenco" at the Bomhard Theater of the Kentucky Center for
the Arts in Louisville, Kentucky. He has also appeared as a Special Guest Artist for the St. Louis
Cultural Flamenco Society & Gitana Productions in St. Louis, Missouri in 1993 through 1997 seasons.
Jorge and María Cecilia were finalists in the 1991 Hispanic Star Search sponsored by the Hispanic Hall
of Fame at the Park West Theater. He has performed for such festivals as the International Cervantino
Festival, Mexico, Lotus World Music Festival, the Island of Puerto Rico Inter-American Universities
anniversary tour, opening ceremonies of the 1994 World Cup representing Spain and for The Chicago
Human Rhythm's Project World Festival of Tap and Percussive Dance honoring Juan Ramon. He is
also Concert Coordinator and Administrator of the Ensemble Español. Jorge, together with Irma Suarez
Ruiz and Maria Cecilia , perform regularly at La Perla del Mediterraneo, Emilio's Tapas and Viva Madrid
restaurants. Jorge is a bilingual teacher at the Kilmer School in Chicago. His accomplishments are
listed in "Who's Who among Hispanic Americans" & "Who's Who Among Business Leaders of
America".
