Principal Endorsement

Program Overview

On September 7, 2012 The Illinois State Educator Preparation and Licensure Board (SEPLB) approved Northeastern Illinois University’s new principal preparation Masters Degree Program in Educational Leadership leading to the new State of Illinois Principal Endorsement.  Students who complete the Master's degree program in School Leadership at NEIU matriculate to positions of leadership in their schools and communities and receive the new State of Illinois Principal Endorsement.

The sequence of courses and the objectives of the School Leadership program have been designed to develop exemplary school leaders and to foster their continued growth and effectiveness.  Our program includes three internship experiences, thus providing for a unique blend of theory and practice in preparation for positions of leadership.  Students who successfully complete the course concentration in School Leadership will develop competencies in effective leadership, educational management practices, and staff development at the school level.  Completion of the twelve-course program will result in the award of an M.A. degree in School Leadership.  This concentration also leads to the new State of Illinois Principal Endorsement.

Additional Program Information

The Principal Endorsement Program requires completion of the twelve-course sequence, two program exams and the state exam.  Graduates in the Principal Endorsement program migrate to careers in administration at the building and district office levels.  The endorsement is an entry to positions as principals, assistant principals and central office administrators.
