Assistant Professor of Teacher Education with Specialization in Bilingual/Bicultural Education

Department: The Teacher Education Department serves more than 1,500 candidates and offers numerous NCATE approved programs of study in preservice and inservice teacher preparation at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

Qualifications: Earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction or related field with a concentration in bilingual education. Candidates will present evidence of a minimum of 5 years of P-12 teaching experience.  Applicants must demonstrate evidence of ability to work collaboratively, to use technology in teaching and assessment, and a commitment to teacher education and to culturally diverse and inclusive settings.  Knowledge of NCATE standards is a plus.

Responsibilities: Teach evening and daytime classes including supervision of clinical experiences, collaborate with colleagues on program design, implementation and accreditation, graduate student advising, research, and service.

Position in Educational Leadership and Development Department:  Educational Leadership

Department: The Department of Educational Leadership and Development at Northeastern Illinois University offers classes at four campus locations, as well as occasional off-site locations. The department houses courses in graduate programs and undergraduate programs in educational leadership, higher education leadership, middle school, educational foundations, inner city studies and human resource development.

Responsibilities: An earned doctorate in Educational Administration or in a related field is required.  A strong research agenda focused on educational policy and urban educational leadership experience is required. Teaching responsibilities include core courses in the educational leadership program including community and school relations, curriculum, school law and/or school finance. Other job responsibilities may include advising, working with practicum students, developing curriculum, research and service. 

Qualifications: An earned doctorate in Educational Administration or in a related field is required.  A strong research agenda focused on educational policy and urban educational leadership experience are required. An interest in current policy debates concerning urban school reform would be an advantage.  Prior experience with ELCC/ISSLC standards and service to the professional community are also a plus.

Department: The Department of Health Education, Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics (HPERA) at Northeastern Illinois University offers the Bachelor of Arts in undergraduate Physical Education and Health and Wellness as well as a Master of Science in Exercise Science. The College of Education is accredited by the National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) as well as the State of Illinois. Day, evening, and weekend courses are offered by the department.

Responsibilities: The chairperson is the chief administrative officer for the department and is responsible for supervising all programs (Health Education, Physical Education, and graduate Exercise Science). Class scheduling, budgets, hiring staff, and representing the department on college and university committees are integral parts of the position. Teaching one course per term is required.

Qualifications: Minimal qualifications include: earned doctorate from an accredited institution in an area related to departmental programs and a record of teaching, research and service that would lead to an appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level is required. Additional requirements include familiarity with teacher certification, accreditation requirements, and evidence of ability to lead a vibrant department. Use of technology is essential and a working knowledge of LiveText is recommended. Experience in diverse settings, active involvement in professional organizations, and professional certifications will be considered by the search committee.

Assistant Professor Special Education Program

Department: The Department of Special Education at Northeastern Illinois University offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs leading toward Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS I) certification.  Gifted and Early Childhood Programs are also part of the Special Education Department.  All programs are NCATE approved.  Ten full-time faculty members teach primarily late afternoon and evening classes.

Responsibilities: The position requires teaching special educators at the elementary and secondary levels in the area of assessment.  The LBS I program is a 45 hour (required credit) graduate degree program.  The successful candidate will provide services to the community in both the areas of assessment and remediation and coordinate the special education clinic: supervising graduate students, coordinate with families, and schedule services.  The successful candidate would be expected to teach classes in undergraduate, graduate or off campus programs. 

Qualifications: An earned doctorate in special education or related area with a background in assessment is required.  Experience with diverse populations, technology, NCATE accreditation expectations, and instructional methodology in the area of special education is desirable.
