General Education Requirements for TCP (English) and Undergraduate Majors in English/Secondary Education

Recall you are on the English department’s English/Secondary Education page.  Advising for GenEd requirements is the responsibility of your advisor in the College of Education (see contacts), but in order to keep your traveling to a minimum, we provide here some useful information about GenEd requirements from the current NEIU catalog.  These requirements can and do change between printings of the catalog, but these lists give our best information to date.

Which GenEd courses are required?

This depends if you are a TCP student or an undergraduate.

For TCP students, your BA degree should satisfy the regular list of GenEd requirements, but you STILL NEED to take several SPECIAL GENERAL EDUCATION courses required of ALL teachers in Illinois (yes, including Math).

For undergraduates pursuing a degree in English/Secondary Ed, you need to complete BOTH the regular list of Gen Ed requirements AND the SPECIAL GENERAL EDUCATION requirements required of ALL teachers in Illinois (yes, including Math).
