Numerous such events are being held all over the region, and community input that is gathered will help shape the future plan. This is a great opportunity to learn about the process and provide your input that will help shape the future of our region. Topics to be discussed include urban sprawl, open space/ farmland preservation, jobs and transportation.

The event is being sponsored by the Department of Geography & Environmental Studies and is open to all community members. No registration is necessary.   Reading Assignment
For November 25th, students are expected to read chapters 13-15 (pp. 360-488) of the Kaplan et.al. textbook. Study the chapter carefully so as to be able to participate in the class discussion.

Final Assignment
Originally, we had scheduled an "Albany Park Project" worth 100 points (10% of the final grade). We have to switch to an alternative assignment, however, worth the same number of points. This final assignment is due on December 9th (final exam day).

Read the following article and write a three page response to it that shows that you thought about the issues addressed in it. This is an exercise in critical thinking, more than anything else. Feel free to offer additional information or an update on the topic citing newspaper articles, etc. if you are so inclined.

Costas Spirou and Larry Bennett. "Revamped Stadium... New Neighborhood?" Urban Affairs Review, May 2002, v.37, n.5, pp.675-702.
