Star Power - Does Power Corrupt?

This powerful two-hour simulation is for anyone concerned about the ethical use of power. This generally includes peace groups, classes on racism, diversity, ethics, and almost any other course or activity concerned with making the world a better place to live. Today’s world leaders believe that it is important for students to experience and understand power as a concept and how to use their power in an appropriate manner. This session is certain to make participants think about integrity in leadership. Registration will be required and the workshop will be capped at 40 participants.

Time: 4-6 p.m.
Location: SU 003

Diwali, commonly referred to as the Festival of Lights, is a significant festival in Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, and Buddhism and one of the biggest celebrations within the Indian community. Diwali is celebrated worldwide by lighting Diyas (candles), hanging up colorful Kandils (paper lanterns), and by setting off fireworks, among many other things. Diwali is known as the festival of lights because lights or lamps signify victory of good over evil.

Here at NEIU, the Indian Students Association celebrate Diwali by holding an annual variety show with dance and musical performances by students. The performances can vary greatly in terms of length and content, but all celebrate some aspect of Indian culture. The show also consists of a multi-cultural fashion show which highlights the diversity of NEIU by displaying clothes from many parts of the world. Following the show is a full Indian dinner served in the cafeteria. After the dinner, guests can dance in Alumni Hall to a mix of Indian and popular music.

This year, ISA's Diwali celebration (Diwali Dhoom 2008) is on Friday, Nov. 7th. The show will be held in the Auditorium. The doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm. After the show, dinner will be served in the Cafeteria. Upon completing dinner, guests can head to Alumni Hall and dance with friends to the music of DJ Xclusive. Dinner and dance are free. Entrance for the show is $5 for NEIU Students/Staff/Faculty (with ID) and $10 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased at the ISA table in the Student Union. Please do not wait to buy your tickets at the door - not only will it be $10 for all guests at the door (with or without NEIU ID), tickets may sell out in advance and we may not have any tickets to sell at the door.
