Graduation Procedures
When the student is approacing the term of graduation he or she should speak with their advisor so the process goes smoothly. Bear in mind that in addition to the major and minor requirements, the student must also fulfill all the University Requirements. Students should be familiar with these requirements, and should also discuss their preparedness with their academic advisor.
The following forms are needed
Academic Course Record Form -- Major
This is a record of all courses which will apply to the Geography or Environmental Studies major. Courses in progress are marked with a P, courses needed are indicated with a N, and a checkmark shows the course is or will be completed at NEIU. Transfer courses, with the advisor's approval, may substitute for existing G&ES courses (maximum ___ hours). These are indicated with the NEIU course name, the name and institution of the course taken.
The student's advisor must initial each course, including the P's and N's. This shows approval of the course as a major requirement. Here is the form for Environmental Studies, and here is the form for the Geography major. These are relevant to students admitted to the programs prior to Fall of 2008.
Beginning Fall 2008 new sets of requirements are implemented for Environmental Studies and for Geography. You'll find the new academic course record forms behind the links in this paragraph. Students already admitted to the program before this time may elect to switch to the new requirments. Do so by Redeclaring the major with the major declaration form; in essence it resets your system to the new requirements. New majors must follow the new requirements.
Academic Course Record Form -- Minor
The same procedure is done with the minor, in the minor department with the chair or minor advisor. Check here for the academic course record form for the form.
NEIU Undergraduate Application for Graduation
This must accompany both the major and minor Academic Record forms. It can be major in Geography or in Environmental Studies, or a minor in Geography & Environmental Studies, should fill out the Declaration of Major/Minor form. At the moment you must pick up the form from the dean's office or Department Office, or from the Department Chair. Soon we hope to have the form on -line, linked to this page.
The completed forms should be taken by the student to Enrollment Services in D-111.
