14. RESEARCH FACILITIES AND COMPUTER ACCESS
Department research facilities include instrumentation for X-ray diffraction; mobile power auger; field-portable gas chromatograph; pressure transducer; facilities for soil and water quality analysis; petrographic microscopes; thin-section preparation equipment; rock and mineral-preparation equipment; sedimentation and grain-size analysis equipment; electrical resistivity units; IBM computers and internet access; a research vessel for lake and near-shore sampling; a seismograph; and Geographic Information System (GIS) hardware and software. The department also maintains three monitoring wells on campus.
An e-mail account is offered free of charge to any NEIU student. To activate your account, visit the computing center in the Classroom Building and ask the attendant for instructions. Be sure to take your university identification card.
