Colorado State University
This is a comprehensive site with links to principles for designing writing assignments. It includes other resources such as sample assignments and grading criteria.

Manhattan College
The Manhattan College site provides a checklist for designing writing assignments and other suggestions.  It provides specific information on designing informal assignments and creating writing assignments particular to your discipline 

Evaluate Student Writing

This site offers a list of links that provide information on making comments on student writing, how to handle grammar, and grading writing. Sample grading criteria and grading sheets are also available. 

WAC Clearinghouse
This WAC Clearinghouse webpage offers information on evaluating student writing through a series of questions on topics such as "How can I handle the papers?" 

Handle the Paper Load

University of Texas at Austin
This University of Texas page provides a short list of practical tips for handling the paper load that results from writing assignments. Several of the tips are linked to pages that provide more details and guidance. 

WAC Clearinghouse
This is another excellent WAC Clearinghouse site that provides information on how to handle a load of papers. Tips on such topics as "focusing your commenting energies" are explained. This page also offers information on grading criteria and grading sheets and how they can help diminish the paper load.

Address Student Errors

Separate from the general topic of how to respond to student writing, is the specific topic of addressing errors in student writing. This website provides information on topics such as initial error marking, ranking and highlighting errors, and determining error patterns, as well as tips on working with students to address errors.

The Center for Writing at the University of Minnesota provides a comprehensive look at peer review and its benefits in the form of answers to a series of common questions related to using peer review in the classroom. 

WAC Clearinghouse
This WAC Clearinghouse page offers a discussion on eight principles to help instructors get the most out of peer review. The page provides links to other valuable resources related to peer review that are available on the site. 

Address Plagiarism

This website provides a well-developed look at topics related to student plagiarism. The site includes discussion on why students plagiarize and how to design plagiarism-proof assignments.

Center for Writing, University of Minnesota
This page offers several brief articles on the issue of plagiarism and how to prevent it. Links are also provided to handouts on plagiarism for students that are utilized by other institutions.
