Located within the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), the Learning Technologies Specialist administers and manages the learning management system (currently Blackboard), provides faculty support in the use of Blackboard and other online systems, and explores new learning technologies for campus adoption.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under direction of the Coordinator of Learning Technologies, administer and manage the learning management system (Blackboard), currently hosted by the vendor, and provide support to faculty using Blackboard. Assist all faculty on campus with creating their electronic portfolio (currently LiveText) for tenure and promotion. Support departments in the use of online student-evaluations of teaching (currently EvaluationKit).
The main focus is on the LMS systems administrator function: Trouble-shoot user accounts and course creation processes. Evaluate and pilot-test new Blackboard features and plug-ins for use by campus faculty. Assist in the integration of such software with the Banner and other university-wide technology applications. Create electronic tutorials and job aids for the use of Blackboard and other instructional software. Assist with the assessment of faculty's use of the learning management system. Make recommendations about campus-wide learning technology initiatives. Explore new learning technologies and software for campus adoption. Maintain the CTL's and related websites and develop other communication tools for the campus.
Required qualifications include: Minimum of 2 years experience with learning management systems (preferably Blackboard) or other system-wide systems. Minimum of 1 year experience w/ server administration and maintenance. Bachelor's degree in CMIS, computer science, instructional technology, or similar areas. Minimum of 3 years experience w/ desktop operating systems, installation, maintenance, and administration, including Macintosh & Linux. High degree of professionalism and interpersonal skills. Excellent writing and time management skills. Ability to work with people with diverse opinions.
