Dr. Edmund Hansen

Duties
Edmund is both the director of the CTL and the project director of NEIU’s
Title V grant, which focuses on improvements for General Education. He
supervises the three main areas of the Center, which include Assessment,
Curriculum & Teaching, and Instructional Technology.
Background
He has been the director
of the Center for Teaching and Learning at Northeastern Illinois University
since its inception in 2001. Before joining NEIU, he worked in faculty
development for over twelve years, half of that time at Indiana University
in Bloomington, the other half at Emporia State University in Kansas. In
Emporia, he was the founding director of the Teaching Enhancement Center and
also an assistant professor in the psychology department. Edmund is the
current president of the Chicago Area Faculty Development Network (CAFDN).
He has published articles and book chapters related to the improvement of
college teaching, including the integration of instructional technology into
the classroom. He has also been involved in the production of several
award-winning videos on teaching and learning in college. He is originally
from Germany, where he worked in adult education.
Education
Edmund received his first Master’s degree in Linguistics and Philosophy at
the University of Aachen, Germany. He then moved to the United States and
received another Master’s degree in Communications from the University of
Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. His doctorate degree is in Educational
Psychology from Indiana University in Bloomington. |

Dr. Kate Hahn

Duties
Kate
offers workshops for faculty and instructors on topics related to curriculum
and instruction with a particular focus on the needs of non-native English
speaking students at NEIU. She also develops workshops on improving
students' writing skills across the curriculum. Kate is available for
individual and departmental consultations related to these topics.
Background
Kate
started teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) while studying in
Vienna, Austria as an undergraduate and has not looked back since. While at
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Kate taught ESL courses for
international undergraduate and graduate students, as well as courses within
the Intensive English Institute. Kate is active in TESOL (Teachers of
English to Speakers of Other Languages). She has been with the CTL since
January 2005.
Education
Kate
received a B.A. in Political Science from Drake University. She has an M.A.
in Teaching English as a Second Language and a Ph.D. in Educational
Psychology with a specialization in Second Language Acquisition from the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. |

Ms. Diane Gritton

Duties
Diane provides
primary administrative assistance to all areas and activities of the CTL.
Background
Diane has worked at Northeastern since November of
1998. Before joining the CTL team, she worked for the Women’s Studies
Program and the combined departments of Justice Studies and Social Work. She
is active in local community theatre and the Chicago Maritime Society,
helping to educate people on our local history.
Education
Diane received her BA in Environmental Studies from
Northeastern Illinois University in December of 2003. |
