What's new with Blackboard?
Did you know that you don't have to login to NEIUport to access Blackboard? Although, NEIUport will get you straight into Blackboard, the two platforms (NEIUport and Blackboard) are not connected per say. Knowing this is especially beneficial if we experience a NEIUport outage.
To access Blackboard directly, simply navigate to: WWW.NEIU.EDU and select Blackboard from the Quick Links dropdown menu located in the upper right.
OR
Within your browser, type: HTTP://NEIU.BLACKBOARD.COM/
Note: If you access Blackboard utilizing the aforementioned methods, you will be prompted for your credentials; which is the same login information that you use for NEIUport.
We have also just deployed a new and more intuitive Blackboard interface. Within, is the addition of resources, in an attempt to give you the service you need for success. When accessing Blackboard, utilizing the processes mentioned above, or by selecting the Blackboard Faculty Resources link within the Academic Services module under the Faculty tab in NEIUport, you will be navigated to this new area.
We begin with; latest information and the status of Blackboard at NEIU, within this locale you will have access to current Blackboard information such as outages, or widespread issues. This is followed by the Frequently Asked Questions, Best Practices and Troubleshooting area; here you have access to resources that will assist with common problems. There is also a Tutorial section that has a plethora of videos and documentation to help with all of the most common Blackboard practices. Finally, if you need more assistance, we provide; by selecting the Faculty hyperlink, you will navigate to a screen that not only offers you the ability to submit issues directly via email, but the opportunity to chat with the Bb team live!
If this wasn't enough excitement, then prepare to be thrilled. Recently, many of us have experienced intermittent, quirky and unexplainable issues within our Blackboard environment (many heads are shaking here, I know it). To address this, we have been collaborating with Blackboard and they have recently taken big steps in an attempt to resolve. As of Sunday, our entire system now resides on new servers, with double the processing power and almost triple the memory. We will refrain from boring you with technical jargon. However, know that our Blackboard application now runs in parallel, meaning there is a load balancing functionality that greatly improves Blackboard stability and increases the integrity of our data.
Please, checkout the new resources, and know that any feedback is welcome.
