Upward Bound

Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. Participants include high school students from low-income families as well as high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree.
The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits.

Services include:

  • 20-week Saturday Institute on NEIU’s main campus that includes English and math, tutoring, Senior Seminar, support to apply for college and financial aid (including FAFSA and scholarships), student advising, counseling, and college visits

  • School-based tutoring, workshops, and counseling at participants’ high schools

  • Summer Voyage, a non-residential six-week summer component that includes English, math, lab science, foreign language, and Human Relations

  • College tours

The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate for institutions of postsecondary education.
