READwELL

READwELL provides professional development activities to improve instruction for students with limited English proficiency and assist education personnel working with these students to meet high professional standards.

READwELL has been designed to increase the skills of high school teachers who work with English language learners.

Activities include:

	A network of administrators, teachers and staff developers to oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of the project in two Chicago high schools.
	Coursework totaling 9 hours of graduate credit towards an endorsement in Reading, ESL, or a related field
	15 continuing education units of professional development toward teacher recertification designed to support LEP students’ acquisition of higher levels of literacy
	Professional development for staff development personnel and teaching artists in effective instructional and assessment methodologies, strategies, and resources for use with teachers who provide literacy instruction to LEP student
	The development of a continuous improvement model for effective professional development for high school teachers of LEP students

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The READwELL leadership and support structure, professional development for teachers, ‘train the trainer’ model, curricula development, and Dissemination Manual work together to address the need for ongoing inclusive professional development.
